New Temporary License Plates Hit NJ

Source: APP.com

Yesterday the state Motor Vehicle Commission revealed the new temporary tags for cars and trucks that have just been purchased.

New Jersey is getting ready to phase out the flimsy paper license plates that were taped to the inside rear window of vehicles, over to a new more durable solution during the next several months.

The new temporary license plates or “eTemp Tags” are made of poly paper, much more durable than the current temp tags,  and are permitted for 20 or 30 days of lawful use. The tags will be mounted in the rear license plate holder just like a regular tag.

The change comes as service to law enforcement to easily  read temporary tags and also help the state collect unpaid E-ZPass tolls. The new tags also aim help reduce fraud and theft of vehicles.

The new eTemp Tags went into service this week, but all dealerships in New Jersey are permitted to deplete their existing paper stock of old tags until June 30.

I would imagine it would be pretty nice, not to mention a whole lot safer, to see the whole rear window in my rear view mirror when buying a new car — especially for new younger drivers. What do you guys think of the new look?
