Help licence plate panel mounting - ChevyTalk --The Social Network ...

Any body know how the licence plate panels mount to the bumpers on 64 impala. Any pics would be great

If you mean the aluminum panels, they use clips that need to be inserted into the holes of the panel and bumper and then squeezed with a set of pliers to make them expand and hold the panel in place.

As I recall the rear plate needs some special nuts since you can't get to the back side to use a standard nut, like you can in the front. It is called a Cage Nut. It is the clip on spring metal type with a nut or threaded part to it. Usually black oxide in color. Should be able to pick them up at any auto parts store.

I have those aluminum clips just wasn't sure how to use them. I figured the had to be expanded somehow

Oh, you want to install the whole panel, not the plate.
Arkar is correct. I seem to recall there are instructions and a line drawing in the shop manual.

You can see that some of mine are missing.

I just took my original rear bumper apart and I have never seen any clips like the ones shown from Impala Bob's.
