Help??? Tyres rubbing!!! - The M3cutters - UK BMW M3 Group Forum

Hi guys, Im after some words of advice from the knowledgeable folks on this helpful forum once again, so here's my problem:-
I've bought a set of 265/30/19 Rear Michelin Super Sports for OEM 19s for the M whilst running Intrax springs and 12mm spacers.
I have noticed that I have large amounts of rubber collecting above the arches and some rubbing is taken place as the top part of the super sport logo on the tyre is worn off.
Now I did recently have 2 people in the back of the car with some luggage in the boot, but I don't this caused the issue. However I did notice under heavy accelerating in 2nd gear the rear of the cars feels like it drops slightly and I can hear the rubbing sound on the arch. Theses tyres aren't cheap and concerned that im going to knacker them quite soon.
So my questions are:-
1. Is 265 tyre with 12mm spacers to wide for the car on intrax?
2. Do I need to somehow role the rear arches to prevent this from happening?
3. Has anyone else ever experienced this before with their M?
4. Or is their something I havent mentioned that could solve the problem?
As always opinions, help and advice greatly appreciated

Revised Fully Printable Eggbot by Glasswalker - Thingiverse

Instructions

These are rough instructions since I have yet to build it myself, these will be updated once I've verified the build:

You will need:
2x NEMA17 Stepper motors
1x 9g hobby servo (Turnigy TG9e or HXT900 is what it was designed for)
All electronics for Spherebot (see link above)
2x 608ZZ "Skate Bearings"
Some M8 Threaded Rod
Several M8 Nuts
Several M4 screws and nuts
A few M4 washers
Some small round rubber "feet" (from the dollar store for putting on electronics to keep them from slipping)
A spring (8mm internal diameter, and as long as you need for your frame size)
A Sharpie (fine tip)
An egg or small ball to draw on

Printed parts:
1x Back plate
2x End plates
1x Egg cup drive
1x Egg cup idle
1x Idler knob (optional to cover sharp ends of rod if kids will use)
2x Idler Bearing Plate
1x Pen Arm Shaft Coupler
1x Pen Arm Pivot
1x Pen Arm Top

Assembly:
- Put 2 threaded rods through the back plate and tighten it down with nuts so it's in the center.
- Assemble the two end plates using threaded rods through the 2 bottom, and the rear top hole (the motor mounts face the "front" side) So that the rear plate is between the 2 back plates. The completely flat side of the rear plate should face forward (with the "bumpy side" facing the rear of the machine)
- bolt the motors onto the NEMA17 mount on one end plate (doesn't matter which) and the rear plate.
- Press fit the egg drive cup onto the end motor
- Press fit the arm shaft coupler onto the rear motor
- Use an M4 nut and short screw to lock the shaft coupler onto the rear motor (the egg cup is just friction fit)
- Fit 2 M4 nuts into the trapped nut slots on the shaft coupler, and then use line up the arm pivot and put 2 M4 screws through the slots into the trapped nuts (just loose for now you can adjust later)
- Use an M4 screw, a couple washers in the middle, and a nut to create the hinge between the arm pivot and arm top parts. Tighten only minimally to allow free swinging with no resistance (use nylock nut or locktite to keep it from falling off)
- drop an M4 nut into the arm top trapped nut hole near the end, and thread an M4 screw into it via the setscrew hole, this is for tightening onto the pen
- Install the servo in the provided bracket on the arm pivot, so that the servo horn is inline with the arm top and can push it up and down with a little rotation.
- press fit 2 608 bearings into the bearing plates (these should be tight, so you may need a little tape depending on your printed parts)
- use 4x (or even 2x) M4 screws to screw the bearing plates in place of the second end plate's NEMA17 motor mount (make sure it's centered)
- Feed a length of M8 rod through the bearings. it just sits loose
- Thread (just twist the plastic part on the hole is just a little too small so it should thread onto the rod with some moderate force) the egg cup idler onto one end of the idler rod
- Fit the spring between the idler cup and the bearing block. It should provide minimal force against the drive cup when empty, and should have enough strength to hold the egg without breaking it.
- Screw the idler knob on the other end of the idler rod.
- Fit 3 of the rubber feet into the appropriate insets on the idler and drive cup These will grip the egg
- Fit a sharpie, and wire up the electronics and you should be good to go!

SILVER SPRING, Md. (CBSDC) — Montgomery County Police pulled over Batman on Wednesday.

Yes, you read that right.

Police stopped the ‘Batmobile’ driven by a man dressed as the Caped Crusader on Wednesday because his vehicle didn’t have any tags on the back — only the Batman emblem.

Indeed, it was quite the sight for officers and onlookers who were driving southbound on Route 29 near Prelude Drive.

After verifying that the man owned the vehicle police let him off with just a warning so that he could go do good in the community. As it turns out, the super hero was on his way to visit sick children in a local hospital.

In case you need any more reason to think Batman is real, check out this story from Maryland, where cops pulled over Batman, driving a Lamborghini for having only the bat symbol for a rear plate. He was on his way to visit sick kids in the local hospital.

Awesome.

Batman Pulled Over by Policemen for Driving Batmobile without ...

When we have thought that Batman can always drive his famous car in the streets uninterrupted as he is pursuing criminals, then we are wronged.

Batman’s batmobile was recently pulled over by police authorities on Interstate 29 in Montgomery, Maryland for not displaying any proper license plates.

But no worry, as the man that was apprehended by Montgomery County policemen was not Christian Bale but Lenny B. Robinson, a Batman impersonator.

Lenny Robinson was in full batman costume while driving his black Lamborghini when he was pulled over.  He was then asked to step out of his car and questioned by authorities.  Authorities saw a bat symbol rear plate instead of the proper license plates.

PHOTOS:

According to a Montgomery County Police spokesman:

“Yes, Batman was stopped by officers on Wednesday, March 21, on southbound Route 29 at Prelude Drive, Silver Spring, for no tags on Batmobile.”

Mr. Robinson aka Batman was lucky enough to spend some time behind bars, but was only questioned and let go with just a warning.

Super heroes should now be more careful.

Protection is the key to survivability. Sadly, the aluminum chassis plate of the Losi Ten SCTE, Ten-T or 810 is completely unprotected against scrapes, scratches and impacts at either end of the truck. Our recent release of our #73042 Front Bumper & Skid Plate takes care of the front of the chassis while our #73082 rear Skid Plate was designed to take care of protecting the back.

The RPM Rear Skid Plate for the Losi Ten SCTE, Ten-T & 810 is simple, yet cleverly designed with a sharp leading edge that transitions seamlessly through a large front radius and into a 5/32” thick skid / wear plate. The large front radius prevents objects from catching the front lip of the skid plate, allowing smooth transitions up and over anything sliding against the bottom of the vehicle. RPM nylons are integral to the design, providing unmatched abrasion and skid resistance for longevity and durability.

Don’t rely on a bare aluminum chassis as your rear skid plate. RPM is in the business to protect your ride so bolt us on and never look back!

When you reassemble, I recommend some nice stainless bolts from McMaster Carr, coating them in anti-seize before you install them. With that combo, the bolts will come off easily if you ever need to access the tank or fuel pump.

Start with the Liquid Wrench penetrating oil or the PB Blaster well before you pull the old plate. I would hose those bolts down several times a day for at least a week. Tap them lightly with a hammer to help the oil penetrate.

You really don't want to shear the head off of one of those bolts, as it a major pain in the ass if you do.

'Batman' Pulled Over For Not Displaying Licence Plates On ...

March 27th, 2012 | By admin

He may be the Caped Crusader, but he is also a very naughty boy.

For the Dark Knight has been pulled over by police – for not displaying the proper vehicle licences on his Batmobile.

But, fear not, these are not less-than-exciting stills from the latest Christian Bale-starring blockbuster, they merely show Batman impersonator Lenny B. Robinson getting a grilling from the law.

Mr Robinson was reportedly en route to a children’s hospital when Montgomery County Police officers instructed him to pull over in his black Lamborghini.

The cops are pictured questioning him roadside on Interstate 29 in Montgomery, Maryland, after they spotted his bat symbol rear plate instead of regulation ones.

Mr Robinson was reportedly questioned and let go with a warning.

A Montgomery County Police spokesman confirmed: “Yes, Batman was stopped by officers on Wednesday, March 21, on southbound Route 29 at Prelude Drive, Silver Spring, for no tags on Batmobile.”

Antique car plates...your state

I just came away from a meeting with our state department of transportation. Please help me if your state makes it easy to get license plates for collector vehciles that are driven, original or unrestored. I need to see the wording of their legislation. Thanks, please send the information directly to me at aaca1@aaca.org Thanks for your help.

Re: Antique car plates...your state

Steve, Texas allows year of manufactur plates if they inspect and approve them. I had only one Texas plate for my '39, and I was nervous about them requiring a front plate as well. However, they said two plates were not required in '39(?), so it was approved.

Steve, don't know about Hawaii yet, but just moved here from Alabama which is EXTREMELY easy on almost any kind of plate. The county we lived in was Lauderdale, don't know if that makes a difference or not. When we lived in Tennessee, it too was very easy, so you might look at them, good luck, John

Re: Antique car plates...your state

Thanks guys, to be clear, this is not about YOM plates. It is about the procedure and the qualifiers to get an antique plate. I need to see how other states actually make the determination to allow you to have a plate. PA has a restriction that does not give the DOT much leeway in making the right decision. Very difficult for an unrestored car to get plates or even some cars that are just used for touring.

It has been several years since I applied for them and put them on the car. But Illinois simply required proof the car was insured as an antique, not as a daily driver, and you had to sign a clause stating that the car would only be driven to shows, in parades, and to a repair facility. No actual inspection of the car was done.

Virginia is similar. I just turned our '86 Chevy wagon's plates in on an antique plate 3 weeks ago. I had to sign a waver that proved that I had another regular licensed daily driver. (They researched it on their computer while I was there.) I also signed a proof of insurance. They gave me a 60 day temp. plate until the yellow and blue permanent plate arrives in my mailbox.

No more safety inspection for this car for the rest of its life. We bought it about 5 years ago. We have since rolled the odometer up to 68,000 miles on it now.

It's still a great driver!
I can send a link to the Virginia law if you need it, Steve.

Trivia: There is only one state in the nation that doesn't have any "collector car" type plates. Which state? What would be the irony?

Steve,

I see Susan responded to you concerning WV. Not sure what the actual law here states but it was simple all 3 times to get an antique tag. No more state inspections and the tag is good for 5 years. There are requirements on driving the cars but most of my miles were chalked up driving the cars to and from inspection stations. There was no verification or proof needed.

Sort of part of the process to become registered and obtain vintage vehicle license plates -

I can look later to see about finding a link, few years back I remember reading how a Pennsylvania owner of a vintage fire truck was having problems being approved for vintage plates.

The reason? It hard markings indicating the original department. Supposedly Penna law states a vehicle with vintage plates cannot carry any wording(?)

When Transfer the Packard from California plates to Washington State plates. No problem showed the girl the Washington plates, I had a pair. but they have another form that allows one to request a single rear plate now. too.

There are driving restriction, like driving to the coffee shop everyday probably would get the plates pulled, and for sure if you the vehicle for computing the plates are pulled. their life plates one time charge it was about $115, but that include transferring into the state. I already the California pink slip, so it was walk through not inspections.

Re: Antique car plates...your state

In Kentucky there are no smog tests or inspections of any kind. Antique plates never expire and have an annual "property tax" of approx. 68 cents. I've owned at least a dozen cars with antique plates since I moved here in 1998 and I drive them whenever I feel like it and have never been pulled over or hassled by the police. My daily driver is an '86 Buick which has antique plates on it and my '61 Merc obviously has antique plates on it too. When you get the plates they assume that all old cars have a value of $100 so you pay $6 tax plus the fee for the plates. It doesn't make any difference if you paid $100K or $500 for the car-they value it at $100 for licensing purposes. I lived in California from 1977-98 and owned a few antique cars there and this is obviously a MUCH better system than theirs. I don't know where the regulations are for antique plates in Kentucky or I would post a link to them here....

Steve, here is link to TXDMV web site on Antique Plates:

Antiques & Classic License Plates

If you drive the car as a daily driver or for more than shows, parades or just for service, you need to get YOM plates or regular plates.
