Harley-Davidson Softail Slim and Sportster 72

Harley Davidson have created two retro style bikes for 2012: The minimalistic Seventy-Two based on the 1200 sportster and the old-school custom bike Softail Slim.

Sportster XL 1200V Seventy-Two

»In creating the Seventy-Two, we were also inspired by the vibe of the early chopper era,« says Frank Savage, Harley-Davidson Manager of Industrial Design. And that’s how the Seventy-Two looks like. Based on a Sportster 1200 with air-cooled Evolution engine with electronic sequential fuel injection the paint color choices of the new model include Hard Candy Big Red Flake with period pinstripe details on fenders and fuel tank, Black Denim, and Big Blue Pearl. The 21/16 inch wheels wear white side wall tires. The chopped rear fender and the side-mounted license plate bracket expose the 150 mm rear tyre.
The powertrain is finished in gray powder coat with chrome covers.
Lots of chrome also on the short dual exhaust with slash-cut mufflers and the eight-inch round air cleaner cover with center screw mount.
The solo is covered with black textured vinyl.
The chrome cupped speedometer is mounted on a ten-inch mini-ape handlebar which is rised two inches.

FLS Softail Slim

Reduce to the max – the new Softail Slim reveals the essentials of the Softail model range.
To keep the rear of the motorcycle simple and clean, the Slim has combination stop/turn/tail lights and a side-mounted license plate. The rear fender struts are left uncovered, exposing the forged steel and fasteners. A thin formed-leather strap covers the fuel tank seam. The powertrain is finished with polished covers instead of chrome, and the black cylinders are left unhighlighted. The FL front fender is trimmed to expose more of the tire.
The tail end with its side-mounted license plate bracket and the combination of stop/tail/turn tail lights is an eye catcher.
Dark and glossy surfaces are found on air cleaner cover, headlamp, nacelle, fenders and the oil tank. 16 inch wheels are steel laced and fitted with fat tyres.
The rigid-mounted, air-cooled, 1690 cc Twin Cam 103B engine delivers 98.7 ft. lbs. peak torque at 3000 rpm.
